Hasbro is trying to push some new life into the board game industry, which is trying to keep it’s head above water in it’s competition with video games. They have signed Jamie Lee Curtis on as their spokesperson to try and boost holiday sales of a select group of Hasbro games.
The games include:
- Monopoly
- Clue
- Twister
- The Game of Life
- Operation
- Scrabble
- Sorry!
- Trouble
- Connect Four
- Guess Who?
- Battleship
- Jenga
So, basically all the old games that you played as a child. Surprisingly there are no games on here that are newer than 15 years old. Hasbro has some recent games that are doing well and are fun, why not throw a few of those into the list?

Board Games From Your Past
Brittlefish has a nice article about the new life Hasbro is trying to breathe into it’s aging line of board games.
You probably played most of these as a child. Some as an adult. Which ones still hold an attraction for you?

It’s a little hard to say whether they count as “board games”, but interesting non-video-games like Carcasonne and Settles of Catan have consistently held their own when pitted against consoles or computers, in my experience.
I realize neither of these are available to a large company like Hasbro, but I thought they deserved mention. There’s no reason board games inherently can’t compete with video games; it’s just that most board games are frankly less interesting. Technology enables video games to reach a level of complexity that non-computerized can only compete with through elegance.
